The Beginning of a Journey: Learning Parenting Through Experience

The journey began in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The first few weeks were challenging. Everything was new, unfamiliar, and constantly changing. What we had learned before didn’t always prepare us for what we were experiencing in reality.

A tiny girl had suddenly taken over our world. Every moment revolved around her.

There were sleepless nights, moments of exhaustion, and times when it all felt overwhelming.

I can still remember one such morning. After a sleepless night, I went to the office feeling completely drained. Before our meeting, my client manager quietly asked if I would like a cup of coffee. It was a small gesture, but in that moment, it felt like a deep understanding of what I was going through.

That moment stayed with me. It reminded me that empathy can come from unexpected places, and sometimes, a simple act of kindness can make a difficult day feel lighter.

Back then, it felt difficult to keep up with everything. But now, when I look back, I find myself cherishing those very moments.

Those early days quietly taught me something important — patience.

Parenting did not come with instant understanding. It unfolded slowly, through everyday experiences, small struggles, and quiet observations.

Looking back, I realize that those challenging moments were not just difficulties. They were the beginning of learning — learning how to care, how to adapt, and how to grow alongside a child.

Maybe parenting is not something we learn at once, but something we grow into, moment by moment.

Beautifully written and so relatable. The small moments, sleepless nights, and quiet acts of kindness often become the memories we cherish the most later. Parenting truly teaches patience, empathy, and growth in the most unexpected ways.

    1. Thank you so much. Looking back, it’s surprising how the smallest moments stay with us the longest. Writing about them has helped me reflect on the journey more deeply.
