The Strength Before the Beginning: A Mother’s Journey

The journey did not begin at birth. It began much earlier.

During the pregnancy, I witnessed a different kind of strength — quiet, persistent, and often unseen.

There were days when she struggled constantly. Vomiting throughout the months, unable to eat properly, and losing strength little by little. Even simple things like food became difficult. She could not tolerate non-vegetarian food at all, and had to rely only on vegetarian meals, which continued for almost eight months.

Her haemoglobin levels dropped, and she had to go through treatment to regain strength. It was not easy. There were physical challenges, discomfort, and uncertainty, all at the same time.

Yet, she continued.

There was no complaint, only endurance.

But alongside all these challenges, there were moments of quiet happiness.

I still remember the first time she felt the baby move. That small moment changed everything. The pain, the discomfort, the uncertainty — for a while, they all faded. There was a sense of connection, of life growing within, and a hope that was difficult to describe.

Those moments brought a different kind of strength — one that came not from endurance, but from joy.

As the days passed, I began to understand that this journey was not just about waiting for a child to arrive. It was about carrying life, even when the body felt weak and the days felt long, and finding hope even in the smallest moments.

Then came the final stage.

The labour lasted for nearly twenty hours. It was intense, exhausting, and beyond anything I had imagined. Standing there, I realized how little we truly understand about what a mother goes through.

And then, in a moment, everything changed.

The pain, the waiting, the struggle — all led to something indescribable.

That was the moment I truly understood the strength and patience of a mother.

This is not just one story.

It is the story of many mothers — of resilience, sacrifice, and a quiet strength that often goes unnoticed, along with moments of hope that keep them going.

Maybe some journeys begin long before we realize. And maybe, the first lesson a child teaches us is not after birth, but through the strength and hope a mother carries even before it.
